What does it mean to pray “in Jesus’ name?” It doesn’t mean to tack these three words onto the end of every prayer. It means to pray as He would; to pray in line with who He is and what He desires. Asking God to make me rich and famous, is a waste, because He isn’t interested in that. But if I pray for a greater love for those who don’t know Christ, I have confidence that He will answer my prayer, because “He is not willing that any should perish but that all would come to repentance”—2 Peter 3:9

Daniel 9:1-19

How should we pray?

  1. Begin by learning who God is and reaffirming His character.
    • Daniel 9:4
    • Daniel 9:7, 14
  2. Be specific in confession of sin.
    • Daniel 9:5
    • Daniel 9:6
    • Daniel 9:11
    • Daniel 9:13
  3. Understand fully the consequences of sin.
    • What are some consequences Daniel mentions?
    • How does being specific help acknowledge the consequences?
    • How does this knowledge inform prayer requests?
  4. Petition God to work, not from entitlement, but for the glory and honor of His name and character.
    • What is Daniel’s basis for prayer in the following verses?
      • Daniel 9:16
      • Daniel 9:17
      • Daniel 9:18
      • Daniel 9:19

How might Daniel’s prayer change how you pray and what you ask for in prayer?
